The purpose of this workshop is to enhance the clinician’s ability to work in an effective and affirming manner with transgender clients across the lifespan. A brief overview of trans-related terms and topics will be presented to set the foundation; however, the majority of the training will focus on more advanced aspects of providing trans-affirmative care. Special attention will be paid to transgender youth and how Motivational Interviewing can be used when working with “resistant” parents.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in experiential or “hands on” activities and watch video clips and mock therapy sessions. Clinicians will be taught about the subtleties in language and perspective that transform therapy into being truly affirming.
